Yesterday I met with Travis the plumber and the builder, Trevin, to brainstorm and come up with a plan to run the gas line to the log lighter in the firebox.
I then cut a 1 1/4" x 1 1/4"wide slot in the hearth base for the gas line. I then ground the top of the hearth base with a diamond cup grinder to make it perfectly flat for the firebrick installation today. I also had to cut out a 6" x 6" section of the hearth base to allow the steel corner support to be installed.
Today I started laying the firebox. The hearth has brick missing at the location of the gas line and the corner post areas. The back and side wall are 6 courses high. Tomorrow I will start laying the firebrick on an angle to create the sloped back wall.
